MERINO Knitwear HANDCRAFTED in Otago NEW ZEALAND
Photo from Puketapu Farm Otago NZ
Our designer merino knitwear is handcrafted using patterns from our family library.
Designing patterns and creating knits is definitely a passion, with 90% of product being my own designs. All our product is handcrafted here in Otago by Sue & I. Cant keep count of how many classic coats Sue has knitted!.
Product: Our knits are hand-knitted with some handcrafted on my mothers old Passap knitting machine (not motorised, so it's what i call a 'workout' and totally a labour of love!). All product is finished by hand. All swing tags are made on site.
I work from our home based studio' where i also work for our forestry based business, so between this, family life & KARRINS, life is certainly full....
Sue and i enjoy creating and we do our best to keep up the supply/demands :).
KARRINS has supplied several retailers in past years, but Baby Divine Dunedin has been a longtime stockist (2009 - 2023) they are a supporter of locally made products.
2021 Update.....15 years on........
I'm really not sure where these past 15 years have gone as i am now a grandmother :D (being a mother of 3).
2023
has brought on some big changes with Baby Divine Boutique Dunedin Closing its doors May 2023 after at least 15+ years in retail.
I am so grateful for the past 15 year relationship with them, (made lifetime friends) and will always treasure this. Their support of our craft has been amazing. Baby Divine supported many local creators.
2023 cont....
We are so thrilled to add 'Baby on the Move Dunedin' as a stockist of our knits. We love everything about this local retailer..... (to be continued....)

A very brief history:
I grew up amongst a family of knitters, crafters and farmers. As a young girl i developed an interest in sewing/design with my grandmother and mother having been a strong influence (My Gran was well known & respected in Cromwell/Central Otago for her extensive craft talents, too many to list). and my mother being a knitter for many, also commercially, at times knitting designer pieces for the local annual 'fashion week' etc. My father started his working life out in Bannockburn in farming where he & my mother met, then later got married in my mothers home town of Cromwell. They then moved to start their life out in Waipiata where dad was a shearer. To this day we still have a very strong connection to the wider Central Otago Region.
From my love and influences of the above I formally started 'KARRINS' in 2006 recreating the 'timeless and traditional styles (such as the 'classic cardi' in the below photo of me as a baby). It is still today one of our most popular pieces.
Given my family roots I have always had a love for the Central & North Otago region, and love nothing more than helping out on my brothers farm, which he runs in North Otago. Helping out on the farm feeds my passion for this wonderful wool fibre and seeing part of the process of the fleece going from...'farm to yarn'..
Our Merino Yarn:
Our yarn is premium Merino yarn sourced from NZ & Australian suppliers.
